Cod and pollack are marine fishes of the Gadiformes family. In Japanese, it is called タラ. It uses the Japanese Chinese character "鱈".
Cod is an edible fish that, due to its habit of eating everything, is the etymology of the Japanese word cod belly(鱈腹), meaning to eat a lot.
